Make-Up Art Cosmetics began life in Toronto, Canada. Makeup artist and photographer Frank Toskan and salon owner Frank Angelo were fed up with the lack of makeup products that photographed well and decided to create their own brand. At first, they made the products in their kitchens and sold them directly from their salons to fellow makeup artists, models, and photographers. Soon, stylists and fashion editors joined the group. As magazine praise increased, so did its popularity through word of mouth. The duo launched M·A·C in March 1984 from a stand inside a Toronto store.
